Position Summary

The Senior Technician Applied Communications supports faculty and students within one or more Media/Design/Broadcasting/Communication) program areas by maintaining the Department's equipment, facilities including studios/laboratories and workshops. The role includes running, monitoring and evaluating studio/workshop/lab hours that familiarize students with the equipment, tools and operations of studio, labs and workshops. The incumbent's scope of work includes the installation, demonstration, maintenance and trouble-shooting of equipment and facilities. This is a hands-on role which will have the Technician working closely with faculty and students with the Studios, workshops and laboratory. The Senior Technician sets up the studios, workshops, lab in preparation for projects/ experiments and may also perform teaching duties within the program.

Requirements

In support of Emiratization, HCT may exercise flexibility with the experience or education requirement in order to recruit UAE National candidates who show potential for success in the role.

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline is preferred
  • Membership to a relevant internationally-recognized professional association is highly desirable
  • First Aid qualification is desirable
  • minimum 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in Broadcast/ Media/Design/Training Industry
  • Experience in supervising small studio and outside broadcast operations.
  • Highly efficient in use of various Software used in Applied Communications, especially Adobe products
  • Should be able to work in both Windows and Mac environment.
  • Practical skills as evident by knowledge of instruments and devices, relevant equipment and facilities used within the studios, lab, and other workshop tools and equipment
  • Practical knowledge about using still/ video camera/operating TV and Radio studios and operating printers, projectors and other educational technology tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of studio operations and safety protocol
  • A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the workplace
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization
  • Previous teaching assistant experience is desirable
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential
  • Working knowledge of Arabic desirable.
