Position Summary

The Academic Technician supports faculty and students within one or more Faculty of Engineering Technology & Science program areas by resourcing the college's laboratories and workshops. The incumbent's scope of work includes the installation, demonstration, training, maintenance and trouble-shooting of equipment and facilities. This is a hands-on role where the technician works closely with faculty and students in the laboratory and may include up to 10 hours per week of instructional duties.

 

Requirements

In support of Emiratization, HCT may exercise flexibility with the experience or education requirement in order to recruit UAE National candidates who show potential for success in the role.

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline is preferred
  • Membership to a relevant internationally-recognized professional association is highly desirable
  • Training certificates or diplomas in workshop practices is desirable
  • First Aid qualification is preferred
  • A completed apprenticeship leading to certification in a professional trade would be advantageous
  • A minimum 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in a laboratory or workshop
  • Practical workshop skills as evident by knowledge of instruments and devices, relevant chemicals used within the laboratory, and other workshop tools and equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety protocols
  • A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the workplace
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment and to cope with pressure in a positive manner while working to deadlines within a busy and demanding environment
  • A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development activities in order to develop and improve new and current skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the organization
  • Previous teaching assistant experience is desirable
