Position Summary

The Dean of Engineering has been established to develop programs that provide the necessary skills and attributes for students of the HCT to pursue careers in the various disciplines relating to the maritime industry including engineering, logistics, communications and navigation. The position will provide leadership in the development of courses and programs related to maritime studies in consultation with relevant industry and government stakeholders. Working with other Deans of Instruction, Academic Program Chairs, and Faculty, the Dean of Engineering will develop curriculum, identify and acquire resources which support students in the attainment of skills that exceed the expectations of employers. The Dean will promote best practices, monitor academic standards, evaluate student performance, facilitate faculty development and develop relationships throughout the system and the community with the aim of continuous improvement of the outcomes of maritime program delivery.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in relevant maritime related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in shipping, ports administration, maritime transport and logistics or related specializations.
  • At least 3 years of managerial experience in a related specialization.
  • Experience in developing and/or leading projects related to maritime education and training.
  • Preferred experience includes academic leadership at a tertiary institution and relevant teaching/training.
  • Familiarity with the principles of curriculum development, delivery and assessment and the relationships of these processes to program quality assurance.
  • A strong commitment to student centered learning principles and practices.
  • Highly developed organizational and management skills with the capacity to work under limited direction, within explicit timelines and in a climate of continual change.
  • Excellent English language skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated experience with industry-education partnerships or linkages.
  • Fluency and accuracy in written and spoken English essential. Arabic an advantage but not a pre-requisite.
