Position Summary

The Counselor provides personal counseling and social advice to students on an individual or group basis in counseling sessions or student development workshops. The Counselor takes a proactive role in facilitating student-staff relations and works to ensure an effective student-centered culture. To this end, the Counselor advises faculty members on how to work effectively with individual students, how to handle counseling referrals, and identify students who may benefit from professional counseling. The Counselor also works closely with academic departments in preparing students for their life and career following graduation.

 

Requirements

In support of Emiratization, HCT may exercise flexibility with the experience or education requirement in order to recruit UAE National candidates who show potential for success in the role.

  • A Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology or a related field
  • A minimum 3 years of counseling experience, preferably in a college or university setting
  • Previous experience in workshop development and delivery
  • A high degree of computer literacy and demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the workplace
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated competency to build strong relationships with students, faculty and college administration
  • Highly developed organizational, analytical and problem solving skills are required
  • The ability to work effectively as a team member in a multi-cultural environment
  • Teaching experience is desirable
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Fluency in written and spoken Arabic may be required at some colleges
